Suspects arrested for firearm related charges

WESTERN CAPE – The alertness by members of Steenberg police led to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect for the possession an unlicensed firearm and ammunition last night, 27 January 2022, in St Bernard Crescent, Lavender Hill.

The members were busy with crime prevention patrols when they notice a suspicious looking male walking in the street. When the suspect saw the police approaching he started to run but was apprehended. The suspect was searched and found in possession of a firearm with ammunition.

The suspect will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates court on Monday, 31 January 2022.

In an unrelated matter members of Delft police arrested an adult male who was found in possession of two firearms and drugs in Freedom Farm last night, 27 January 2022. The members followed up on information about firearms and drugs at a dwelling and searched it. While searching the premises they found two Rubi revolvers without serial numbers and drugs inside the dwelling. The suspect will face charges of possession of prohibited firearms and possession of drugs.

Furthermore Delft police also arrested an adult male for the possession of a zip gun and ammunition in Maartlelie Street, Roosendal, Delft last night at about 22:20. The members were busy with patrols when they caught the suspect with the homemade firearm.

Once charged the suspects will make their respective court appearances in Bellville Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
