WESTERN CAPE – Vigilant members attached to the Knysna crime prevention unit deployed to conduct focused patrols in crime ridden areas as well as the enforcement of Level 3 Lockdown restriction recovered suspected stolen valued at over R22 000 in the early hours of this morning, 29 August 2021.
At about 00:10 these members conducted blue light patrols in the central business of Knysna when they noticed a man with a grocery trolley acting suspiciously. They approached the man and proceeded with a search of the trolley when they found three Schulz impact drills. He was unable to account for his possession and the items were confiscated. The police subsequently arrested the suspect.
Meanwhile, the same team also swiftly responded to an alert from a local security company at about 00:15 after a suspicious person was seen cycling with a bicycle in the vicinity of Hunters Home. On arrival they noticed the man disappearing into the bushes. A search of the bushes ensued where the suspect was found hiding. The police apprehended the suspect and confiscated the bicycle valued at about R10 000.
Both suspects remains in custody. They are facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen property each. The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances on Monday, 30 August 2021 at the Knysna Magistrates’ court.
In an unrelated matter, the Knysna police confiscated 97 Mandrax Tablets with an estimated street of R5000 at Concordia on Friday 27 August 2021. The members conducted patrols when they noticed strange behaviour from a juvenile. They approached the 17 year old juvenile and upon searching him, found the drugs in his pocket. The juvenile was subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of drugs. He was later released into the custody of his parents and warned to appear in court on a later date.
