Suspected stolen livestock recovered and vehicle seized

FREE STATE – The farmers, police and Sasol Highway patrollers worked together this morning to stop silver Grey bakkie with GP registration traveling on farm roads pulling a trailer from Vanderbiljpark transporting 12 cattle towards N3 highway near Roadside.

On 16 November 2021 the farmers in Warden became suspicious when seeing two bakkies on the farms of which one was pulling a trailer. They gave chase to the suspected two bakkies and also activating local police stations for assistance as part of Rural Safety. Therefore, they managed to stop the bakkie which was towing a trailer and two suspects allegedly left the bakkie and fled on foot into the nearby farms. The other bakkie couldn’t be traced. It was discovered that the suspects cut fence on the neighbouring farm where the cattle were kept and loaded them. They were taking a short cut road towards N3 and head to Gauteng Province.

All the 12 cattle were handed over to the lawful owner. A case of suspected stolen property is being investigated.

The role players were farmers, Rural Safety police, Vrede Stock Theft Unit, Roadside police, Bethlehem K9 Unit and Sasol Highway Patrol Team who quickly responded and assisted in preventing stock theft.
