NELSPRUIT - A 40-year-old suspect is expected to appear at the Witbank Magistrate's Court for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition after he was arrested earlier today, in Witbank.
Police received information about a man who was seen in possession of a firearm. They then responded swiftly and proceeded to his house where upon arrival they asked him about the firearm and he allegedly told them that it was hidden in the mattress. Police then conducted a search and found the firearm with the serial number filed off and live ammunition as well as small plastic bag containing more ammunition. He was immediately arrested.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has applauded the members for their efforts which resulted in the suspect being speedily arrested, more so as illegal firearms threaten the lives of many as well as cause unnecessary loss of life.
