An intensive investigations by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, led to the arrest of one suspect on Tuesday, 16 September 2021 for the alleged murder of 33-year-old Matela (Sefako) Likhama and the attempted murder of his 25-year-old friend.
According to information received, the two friends were on Saturday, 25 April 2021, walking at Nape Stad, Dihokong in Stilfontein, when they were approached by a group of men. Suddenly, two men from the group produced firearms and allegedly shot both friends and fled the scene. Police and Emergency Services (PES) were called and Likhama was declared dead on the scene by Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics. His 25-year-old friend was rushed to hospital in a serious condition, but managed to recover.
The suspect, aged 21, is expected to appear before the Stilfontein Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 September 2021, for murder and attempted murder.
