NELSPRUIT – 47-year-old Doctor Shongwe was remanded in custody following his appearance at the Ogies Magistrate’s Court, yesterday 12 July 2022 for murder. Shongwe was arrested on Sunday, 10 July 2022, after he handed himself over to the police. During his court appearance, the matter was postponed for further investigation to 28 August 2022.
According to the report, on Saturday, 09 July 2022, members of the community found a woman's body buried in a shallow grave by the dumping site at Siyabonga Section and immediately alerted the police. The police responded swiftly and upon arrival, they noticed some visible injuries on the body. A case of murder was opened and members launched an investigation into the matter.
The following morning, on Sunday, 10 July 2022, the suspect then handed himself over to the police as a suspect and he was arrested and charged accordingly.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, has applauded the arrest of the suspect and further vowed that the police will not rest until perpetrators who commit crimes against women and children are taken off the streets.
