The sixth suspect in the murder of Patrick Hamupanda handed himself over to the police on Monday.
Namibian Police Force (NamPol) spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, informed the media that the suspect handed himself over Monday morning and will appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court Tuesday. He faces a charge of murder.
The suspect is accused of murdering Hamupanda in a house in Mungunda Street on 13 August 2023, along with five other men. The other suspects - Lukas Simon, Festus Nehemia, Lukas Andreas, Kleopas Amutenya and Felex Imusi - were arrested last Tuesday. They appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Johannes Shuuveni, who denied bail due to the serious nature of the offence. Their right to a formal bail application was however made known to them.
Allegations are that Hamupanda was murdered with a gun and pangas, after the suspects ransacked the rental home where they went looking for him. The suspects, according to Shikwambi, fled the scene in a blue Citroën.
The suspects have since indicated that they would be applying for Legal Aid. They face a charge of murder. The matter was remanded to 28 September 2023.
