Cape Town: A 22-year-old male is in police custody following an alleged murder at a local tavern in Philippolis. It was on the 15 February 2025 at about 01:30 when a quarrel allegedly started between two males over a R5 coin during a game of pool at a local tavern in Philippolis.
According to South African Police Service, it is alleged that a 22-year-old suspect broke a bottle and stabbed a 22-year-old victim on the neck. The victim went out of the tavern and was found lying on the pavement just outside the tavern. Police were summoned to the scene and found the lifeless body of the victim outside the tavern. A case of murder was opened for investigation.
During the course of the day, police managed to trace the suspect with the assistance of the community around Philippolis. The apprehended suspect is expected to appear before Philippolis Magistrates’ Court soon, facing a charge of murder.
