Suspect in Arson Case Commits Suicide Near Keetmanshoop

Keetmanshoop, Namibia - A 44-year-old man, Clifton Lionel Goliath, wanted by the Keetmanshoop police for allegedly setting fire to his girlfriend's house, committed suicide on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Nikodemus Mbango, the Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for ||Kharas, confirmed the incident.

According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), the suicide occurred approximately 15 kilometers outside Keetmanshoop on the Keetmanshoop-Aroab road around 11:20 AM. The police, upon arrival at the scene, discovered Goliath had slit his throat with a knife. He was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.

Goliath was suspected of pouring petrol onto a house in Sonop, Keetmanshoop, and igniting it between 2:00 and 3:00 AM on Sunday. Although the fire resulted in the destruction of the family's belongings, valued at an estimated N.dollars 200,000, no one was harmed as all occupants managed to escape the blaze.
