Suspect found in possession of stolen cable wire

SAPS determination to curb the threat posed by ferrous and non-ferrous metal related crimes yielded positive results when a 34-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the South African Police Services at Lady Grey.

 

It is alleged that on Tuesday, 24 August 2021, members were on duty when they acted swiftly on Intelligence about the whereabouts of stolen cable wire.

 

A backup team was requested to trace the suspect. The preliminary investigation begun at the second hand good dealers but nothing was found.

 

The team then immediately proceeded to the Steve Tshwete Township and they come across with a male that was carrying a black bag.

 

Upon searching him and the bag, the cable wire and a hammer was found and a huge quantity of mandrax tablets.

 

He was arrested and detained. He will appear in court on 26 August 2021 at the Lady Grey Magistrates Court.

 

The acting District Commissioner of Joe Gqabi, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph applauded the quick response by the team of visible Policing in the recovery of the cable wire.

 

The possibility that the suspect may be linked to other similar cases of cable wire theft is also investigated.
