DURBAN – Four men aged between 25 and 30 are expected to appear at the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 June 2021, facing charges of carjacking and attempted murder.
On 26 June 2021, at 19h45, a truck was hijacked at gunpoint in Murchison by five men. The hijacked vehicle was driven along freeway towards Durban.
Police officers gave chase and attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver refused to stop. During the chase there was an exchange of gun fire. At Ifafa, the truck drove into the embankment between the north bound and south bound lane. The driver fled from the truck across the freeway and headed for the bushes.
Following a shootout the body of the suspect (30) was found in the bushes.
The truck valued at approximately R300 000 was recovered.
Four suspects were detained at the Port Shepstone police station.
The four men will appear before the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court facing carjacking and attempted murder charges.
