Suspect convicted for possession of unlicensed firearm

NORTHERN CAPE – The Mothibistad Regional court convicted and sentenced Aobakwe Motlhanke (28) on Wednesday for illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Motlhanke was arrested in December 2019 by Kuruman Serious Organised Crime Investigating team working in conjunction with Crime Intelligence. The team received information about a man being in possession of a firearm. A search and seizure disruptive operation was conducted at Seoding village in Kuruman. During the search, a revolver 357 Magnum was found hidden in radio speaker inside his house.

Motlhanke made numerous court appearances until he was convicted. He was sentenced to six years imprisonment, suspended for period of five years, he was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
