The special focus on the proliferation of illicit firearms ensured that a wanted suspect finds himself behind bars following his arrest during targeted operations in Laingsburg earlier this week.
On Tuesday, 31 May 2022 at about 21:00 Laingsburg crime prevention unit members swiftly responded to information about illegal activities when they stopped next to a man at a hiking spot at Laingsburg on the N1. The vigilant members proceeded with a search of the suspicious man and found a pistol in his possession. Police confiscated the firearm and arrested the 33-year-old suspect on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearm.
The accused was brought before court on 01 June 2022. He was remanded in custody and the matter postponed to a future date.
In an unrelated matter, Riversdale police conducted a crime prevention operation at a drug outlet at Riversdale on 01 June 2022. A search of the premises resulted in the confiscation of small quantities of Mandrax and dagga. The police arrested a 31 year old suspect on a charge of dealing in drugs. He is expected to appear in the local court today.
Western Cape police management praised the members for their swift response which led to the confiscation of an unlicensed firearm and drugs. These efforts forms part of various crime combating operations across the province aimed to rid communities of illegal firearms as well as drugs which threatens the safety of the public.
