GQEBERHA – Joint intervention between SAPS Kwadwesi, Gqeberha K9 and Flying squad led to the recovery of a hijacked truck and the arrest of one suspect in possession of suspected stolen property on Thursday, 16 February 2023, in Kwadwesi area.
It is alleged that at approximately 09:45 on abovementioned date, a white Isuzu Truck was forced off the road on the N2 near Coega by suspects who pointed the driver with a firearm. The suspects drove off with the truck and the driver and his passenger were dropped in Mkhwenkwe Street, Kwadwesi.
A case of truck jacking was opened at SAPS Kwadwesi.
Gqeberha K9 members were busy with patrols in the area of Ezinyoka, when they noticed suspicious behaviour in the area. Flying Squad members, SAPS Kwadesi and Public Order Policing provided assistance when the community noticed the presence of the SAPS, they dropped the boxes they were carrying and ran away. As the members were searching the surrounding houses for suspected stolen property that was looted from the hijacked truck, they arrested one suspect (28) who had several pairs of brand new shoes that was hidden in the shack. The empty boxes were found lying at the back of the shack.
The hijacked truck was impounded for further investigation. Police also recovered shoes, linen, cigarettes and liquor that were also taken from the truck.
The suspect was detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
The investigation is ongoing and the arrested suspect will appear at the New Brighton magistrate court on Monday, 20 February 2023.
