On 27 September 2021, at 09:00, a 26-year-old woman was walking along Margret Mncadi Avenue when an unknown man, who instructed her not to create a scene by screaming, approached her. The suspect drew his firearm, robbed the victim of her cellphone and fled the scene on foot.

The victim spotted the police who were conducting crime prevention duties in the CBD and informed them of the robbery. They immediately began searching for the man from the description they were given and spotted him boarding a taxi. He was apprehended and searched. He was found in possession of the complainant’s cellphone and a replica firearm. The 29-year-old suspect was detained at the Point police station for armed robbery. He is appearing before the Durban Magistrates’ Court today.
