WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance by Harare police members led to the arrest of a 29-year-old suspect, the recovery of a hijacked vehicle and two firearms with ammunition after a high speed chase earlier today in Khayelitsha.
The members were busy with patrols when they spotted the hijacked vehicle in Steve Biko Street, Endlovini. The suspects started shooting at the members who retaliated by returning fire. The vehicle came to a standstill after it collided with a concrete wall. Two suspects managed to evade arrest while one suspect was apprehended.
A 9mm pistol and a revolver with ammunition with no serial numbers and cellular telephones were found in the vehicle.
Once charged the suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates court on charges of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition, possession of a hijacked vehicle, reckless and negligent driving and attack on police.
