Suspect arrested and firearm recovered: Bethelsdorp

GQEBERHA – In our efforts to eradicate illegal firearms and make our communities safe, SAPS Bethelsdorp’s stance on adopting a zero tolerance approach achieves significant strides.

During the early hours of this morning at approximately 02:10, SAPS Bethelsdorp members were patrolling in Kwanoxolo when they noticed a suspicious man, in Mpuku Street. Upon noticing the police vehicle, he started to run.  The members chased after the suspect and apprehended him. While searching him, they found a Norinco 9mm firearm (serial number filed off) with ammunition.  The suspect, aged 22, was detained on charges of possession of prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

He is expected to appear in court during the week. The firearm will be sent to ballistics for analysis.
