NELSPRUIT – A 31-year-old suspect appeared before the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, 29 December 2021, for possession of a suspected stolen firearm, after he was arrested by police from Lydenburg K9 Unit on Tuesday, 28 December 2021. The suspect was remanded in custody until 11 January 2022.

 

According to the information, on 28 December 2021 at about 11:35, members were conducting their normal duties around Lydenburg when they stopped a certain truck which looked suspicious, with, three occupants inside. Police then conducted a search and one of them was then reportedly found with a Z88 pistol in his luggage. The serial numbers of the firearm were filed off and the suspect admitted that the firearm was taken from a police official. He was then arrested hence his court appearance.

 

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has commended the vigilance by the astute members which led to the arrest of the suspect as well as the recovery of the firearm.
