Summoned to court for allegations of RAF fraud

EASTERN CAPE – The Gqeberha based Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team served summons to a 34-year-old suspect on 10 May 2022 for allegations of Road Accident Fund (RAF) fraud.

On 25 March 2015, the suspect is reported to have lodged a claim for injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident he claims to have been involved in near Ponana Tini Street at Kariega in August 2014. The suspect made a claim of more than R3 million. RAF identified some inconsistencies in the claim and referred the matter to the Hawks for further investigation. RAF was saved from a potential prejudice worth millions.

The suspect will make first appearance in New Law Court on 24 May 2022.
