DURBAN – On Thursday night, 06 October 2022, police officers from Chatsworth Task Team received information about a silver vehicle linked to numerous cases of theft of motor vehicles in Chatsworth and the surrounding areas. The police were alerted by the vigilant security guard at the centre when a theft of a white motor vehicle had occurred.
The SAPS together with Metro police officers conducted crime prevention operations in the CBD and spotted the vehicle with two occupants and a stop and search was conducted. It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen in May 2022 in Pietermaritzburg. Police seized a number of car breaking implements, cell phones belonging to the suspects which contained images of multiple vehicles being stripped and of log books and licence discs for numerous vehicles.
The vehicle that was stolen at the centre was also recovered. The suspects aged 31 and 47 appeared before the Chatsworth Magistrate’s Court on 07 October 2022 for possession of property suspected to be stolen.
