DURBAN: On 26 June 2021 at 06:05, the Bergville Stock Theft Unit was alerted of a bakkie transporting stolen goats at Potsheni Road in Bergville.
The police officers proceeded to the identified area. With the assistance of a local security company, a 25-year-old suspect was apprehended while the other two managed to flee the scene. A total of 15 goats were found at the back of the bakkie. It was established that the goats were stolen on the same day at Vimbukhalo area in Emmaus. The recovered goats were positively identified by the lawful owner. The suspect appeared yesterday in the Bergville Magistrates’ Court for stock theft.
In another operation on the same day, the Bergville Stock Theft Unit recovered 35 stolen cattle. The cattle were stolen at different areas in Bergville. It is alleged that on 19 June 2021, 14 cattle were stolen from a kraal in Greenpoint area. The cattle were found in a kraal built at a plantation in Gqumaweni area. In another case on 24 June 2021, 21 cattle were stolen from a farm in Bergville. It is alleged that the suspects gained entry by cutting the fence. All the stolen cattle were positively identified by the lawful owners. The suspects are still being sought by police.
