GAUTENG - On Monday, 28 March 2022 Crime Intelligence members of the SAPS Booysens detected a hijacking case that was opened at Booysens police station.

The members reportedly noticed that the alleged stolen vehicle is also linked to another case. It was decided that the complainant and his girlfriend in the hijacking case should be re-interviewed. Further investigation revealed that the complainant falsely reported a case of hijacking as it never took place.

The complainant and his girlfriend were subsequently arrested for perjury.

The Station Commander of SAPS Booysens, Brigadier HA Jones views the opening of false cases in a serious light. Time goes into the investigation of cases which should ultimately lead to successful arrests. "If it is found that a community member has opened a false case, they will be arrested for perjury. Opening a false case means lying under Oath and this is punishable by law," said Brigadier Jones.

Members of the public are urged to refrain from reporting false cases as this waste both time and resources that could have been directed to an actual serious matter.
