Port Elizabeth: The South African Police Service gathered in solemn remembrance to bid farewell to Constable Ayanda Moyikwa, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. The funeral service, attended by high-ranking officials including General SF Masemola, National Police Commissioner, and various provincial commissioners, paid tribute to the dedication and bravery of Constable Moyikwa.
According to South African Police Service, Constable Moyikwa, a 32-year-old officer with six years of service, was killed while attempting to intervene in a robbery. His courageous efforts to deter criminals resulted in a fatal encounter, leaving behind a young son who will now grow up without a father. Despite the loss, the police service assured Moyikwa’s family of their support, promising to take care of his child’s educational needs.
The service highlighted the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement officers in South Africa. Over the past five years, 179 police officers have been killed while performing their duties. Constable Moyikwa’s death underscores the inherent risks that officers face daily as they fulfill their duty to protect the community.
In a stern message to those responsible for Moyikwa’s death, officials vowed to relentlessly pursue justice.
