South Africa to Launch 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

Cape Town: The Cabinet has approved the conceptual approach for this year’s 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign. The campaign will operate under the theme, “30 Years of Advancing Collective Action to End Violence Against Women and Children.” This theme highlights the necessity of a whole-of-society approach in tackling gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) and underscores the importance of multi-sectoral accountability.

According to South African Government News Agency, this year’s campaign aims to address the root causes of GBVF while promoting positive masculinity, gender equity, and creating economic opportunities for women and children. Despite the conviction of over 1,000 GBVF perpetrators between April 1 and September 31, 2024, Minister in The Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni emphasized the need for continuous efforts to eliminate this issue from society.

This year marks the 26th anniversary of South Africa’s involvement in the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence agains
t Women and Children campaign. The campaign is set to be launched on November 25, 2024, in Rustenburg, North West. This initiative aligns with the global campaign that runs from November 25, International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, International Human Rights Day.
