South Africa and Norway host a high level technical meeting on Medical Countermeasures
South Africa and Norway, in association with the World Health Organisation will co-host a historic high level technical meeting on medical countermeasures with international partners. The meeting will take place from 23rd to 24th February 2023 at Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg under the theme, “Building consensus for an equitable and sustainable medical countermeasures platform for the next pandemic.” Medical countermeasures (MCMs) are medicines and medical supplies that can be used to diagnose, prevent, or treat diseases related to chemical, biological, radiological, or nuclear (CBRN) threats. MCMs can include vaccines, diagnostics and therapeutics.
The meeting will explore options for a global medical countermeasures platform or ecosystem, to secure equitable access to critical and lifesaving vaccines, diagnostics, therapeutics and other medical countermeasures for all citizens of the world in the event of another pandemic.
The Minister of Health, Dr Joe Phaahla will deliver the official opening remarks, whilst the Director General in the Presidency, Ms Phindile Baleni will deliver the closing remarks.
