Six suspects behind bars for extortion

POTCHEFSTROOM – An intelligence driven operation by Provincial Organised Crime Unit, Anti-Gang Unit and Tactical Response Team (TRT) resulted in the arrest of six suspects on Tuesday, 14 December 2021.

The suspects, aged between 39 and 61, were arrested in Potchefstroom for allegedly extorting money from a businessman after threatening to stop his construction operations if he did not pay them.

They are all expected to appear in the Potchefstroom Magistrates Court on Friday, 17 December 2021 on a charge of extortion.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena welcomed the arrest which he said will definitely sound a warning that police in the province will not hesitate to deal effectively with organised criminal groups.
