NORTHERN CAPE – Festive season operations continue to yield successes after six suspects were arrested after robbing a local business in Kleinzee in the Namakwa District.
Police operationalised information after a business robbery in Kleinzee which led to the arrest of six men and the recovery of all the stolen items, including an unlicensed firearm, cash, uncut diamonds and jewellery.
On Wednesday, 15 December 2021 at midday, six men allegedly entered the business and threatened the shop owner and family members with a firearm at their business in Kleinzee.
The suspects tied them up with cable ties and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, uncut diamonds, cellphones, jewellery and a Ford Wildtrak bakkie.
A collective team comprising of Springbok K9 unit, Public Order Policing, Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit, Komagas and Kleinzee Visible Policing unit and Detectives arrested the first suspect traveling in a black Renault on the Buffelsrivier/Komagas Road, approximately two hours later and confiscated a firearm, ammunition and clothes from the vehicle.
Three males were later arrested in Springbok and two other males were found hiding in a veld near Buffelsrivier with all the other stolen goods.
The Ford Wildtrak bakkie was also found abandoned not far from the scene.
The suspects are aged between 30 and 55 years and will be appearing in the Springbok Magistrates’ Court on charges of business robbery, theft of motor vehicle, illegal possession of uncut diamonds, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
