Siblings arrested for vigilantism

DURBAN – Four murder suspects aged between 23 and 29 are expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court today for killing a 38-year-old man. The suspects were arrested on 27 January 2022 by KwaMashu detectives.

On 29 December 2021 at 10:00, police officers attended to a report of mob justice at Langwe Road in D Section, KwaMashu. The victim Siphiwe Shelembe (38) was assaulted with sticks and hammers, he was also burnt with plastic by a group of people who were accusing him of robbery in the area.

The suspects fled the scene when they spotted the police vehicle approaching. The victim sustained multiple injuries and he was taken to hospital for medical attention where he succumbed to his injuries.

A case of murder was opened at KwaMashu police station for further investigation. An intensive investigation led to the arrest of the suspects. We once again advise citizens that vigilantism is strongly condemned and those caught taking the law into their own hands will face the full might of the law.
