Windhoek: The Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force ( NamPol ), Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo , has urged senior officers to focus on ‘ cold cases .’ Shikongo was speaking during the official opening of the senior criminal investigation directorate conference at the police headquarters in Windhoek on Monday . The inspector general said cases that have gone unresolved need to be finalised for the sake of the affected families . He said members of the community have approached him with complaints that they have not received feedback from the police about various cases . Shikongo noted that complainants are supposed to get monthly updates on their cases through a progress report , but in many cases , this does not happen . ‘ There was a lady who came here recently , she had a case of 2011 . A rape case , her daughter was raped when she was 17 , and there is no closure to that case because nothing is coming up ,’ Shikongo said . The inspector general described the senior criminal investigation direc
torate conference as an opportunity to correct these issues , and added that officers can only do so if they work as a unit . Senior officers will receive crime investigation training during the conference , which ends on Friday .
