WESTERN CAPE - Police mandate to create a safe environment in all communities yielded positive results when members arrested several suspects in the Western Cape.
Members attached to Maitland Flying Squad conducted a stop and search operation in Manenberg area, in the early hours of this morning, 06 August 2022 when a suspect was caught and searched. Two pistols were found in his possession. The 52-year-old suspect was arrested and detained at Manenberg SAPS and will appear in the Athlone Magistrates court on Monday, 08 August 2022 on a charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
In an unrelated matter, on 05 August 2022 at approximately 20:30, members attached to Operation Restore yielded results through great team work, when they arrested a 51-year-old suspect for dealing in dagga. The members received information of drugs being sold at a premises in Linge Crescent, Happy Valley, Mfuleni. They immediately operationalised the information and search the premises in the presence of the owner. The members found four big bags containing loose dagga weighing 30kg with an estimated street value of R5000. The suspect will appear in Blue Downs Magistrates court on Monday, 08 August 2022 on the mentioned charges.
On Thursday, 04 August 2022, an intelligence driven operation was conducted by West Coast K9 on a premises in Port Jackson Crescent, Darling where a 62-year-old woman was arrested for the possession of a large amount of mandrax and tik (2055 Mandrax tablets and 318grams of tik). The woman was later released and four other suspects were, arrested a 29 year old female and three males aged 19, 48 and 66 respectively. The suspects are being detained at Darling SAPS and will appear at the Malmesbury Magistrates court on Monday, 08 August 2022 once charged.
Meanwhile Operation Vutha Hawe, an initiative by our detectives to trace wanted suspects resulted in the arrest of 474 individuals who were sought for serious offences such as murder, attempted murder, robbery, assault, burglary and domestic violence during the past week. Operation Vutha Hawe is an ongoing initiative where inroads are being made to apprehend and charge wanted perpetrators.
