Police members in the Western Cape arrested several suspects for various serious crimes, ensuring that they are brought before a court of law.
The men, aged, 29 and 36 were arrested for armed robbery as a result of information received by police members on patrol on Govan Mbeki road last night, 23 August 2021. The suspects accosted their victims by threatening them with knives on the bus. When the suspects noticed the police members stopping the bus, they tried to evade arrests but to no avail.
In an unrelated matter, Police members doing patrols in Joe Slovo area received information from a reliable source about a firearm in a shack. On arrival at the given address the members entered the shack and found two males aged 21 and 44 years old sitting on the bed. They searched the males and found a 9 mm Silver Glock firearm with a serial number filed off and dagga with unknown street value. Both male suspects were arrested on Saturday, 21 August 2021 for possession of prohibited firearm and dealing in drugs. The suspects are due to appear this morning at Cape Town Magistrate Court.
On Saturday, 21 August 2021 at 04:00, Mitchells Plain Organised Crime Unit were busy with time prevention duties, when they received information about a group of gangsters that were at a house in Rolbal Street, Beacon Valley. When police searched the premises, they found a suspicious male hiding behind a door. The members immediately searched the suspect and found a CZ 7.65 firearm and four 9mm rounds in his possession. The 20-year-old suspect were arrested on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates Court this morning.
On Saturday, 21 August 2021 at about 21:20, the complainant was at home when four unidentified males came to his shop in Victoria Road, Portlands. The group belonging to a gang demanded money from the complainant. He refused and they started to damage the shop by throwing stones at the windows. The damaged caused amounted to about R15 000-00.The same modus operandi was used on a previous occasion.
Follow up investigation led to the arrest of two males aged 19 and 20 whom faces charges relating to extortion. They are expected to appear in court this morning.
