KWAZULU-NATAL – On Wednesday 3 August 2022, Hawks members from Newcastle Serious Organised Crime Investigation working together with Newcastle Visible Policing and K9 unit arrested three suspects aged between 28 and 37.

The three were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen. It is alleged that police received information about scrap metal dealership which was unlawfully receiving stolen metals. They proceeded to Marconi Drive Industrial area in Newcastle where a search was conducted and registers inspected.

Police discovered that the owner failed to keep records of the seller as a result he was issued with R3000-00 fine ticket. It was also discovered that some of the scrap metals were stolen and the owner together with his two managers were arrested.

They are expected to appear in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court today.
