SAPS members pursue stock theft suspects on foot and affect an arrest

SAPS members’ endeavours to prevent and detect stock theft yielded positive results.

It is alleged that on the 26 October 2021, in the afternoon at 15:00, the Station Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Reynders received a call from a farmer in the area informing him that there were people busy slaughtering sheep on his stock post.

Lieutenant Colonel Reynders and Constable Nkumenge immediately attended to the complaint.

After a walk in the mountains, about 4km, police noticed the suspects carrying the slaughtered meat.

They gave chase and arrested the two suspects age 38 and 21 with the meat of one sheep in their possession.

The suspects will appear tomorrow in the Maclear Magistrate’s Court on a count of stock theft.

The acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Rudolph Adolph commended the Commander and his member for the swift reaction and the recovery of the stolen meat within hours after the crime was committed.
