VHEMBE - Following the expanding rates of Gender Based Violence incidents across Limpopo province, the Deputy Minister of Police Mr Cassel Mathale supported the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) awareness campaign held at Thavhane mall in Thohoyandou under Vhembe District on Saturday, 18 June 2022.

The event was also attended by Mayor of Vhembe District Municipality Cllr Nenguda, Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for policing Major General Jan Scheepers, Thohoyandou Station Commander Brigadier Mantjane,

Vhembe District Vispol Commander Colonel Rakhadani and Detective Head Colonel Raphulu, Police officials from the District and Stations, CPFs, CSFs as well as stakeholders from different entities and NGOs and community members.

The campaign commenced with a fun walk from the District Municipal offices to Thavhani Mall where the main event was held.

Various speakers including activists and ambassadors urged victims of gender-based violence and domestic violence to report the incidents immediately to the police to protect themselves from the perpetrators.

The Deputy Minister, Mr. Cassel Mathale delivered the keynote address and strongly condemned the ongoing incidents of gender-based violence and femicides across the province. He encouraged the community to work closely with the Police to protect women and children, to establish and effectively participate in Community crime prevention structures in their areas and have engagements with the Police consistently as this will play a vital role in the fight against crime.
