The SAPS K9 Unit recovered two vehicles, confiscated drugs and arrested two males last night.
While on patrol in Central at about 19:00, the K9 Unit members noticed a suspicious Orange Geely in Western Road. Upon searching the vehicle, members discovered and confiscated four packets of cocaine, eight packets of Tik and 39 Mandrax tablets which was in the possession of the driver. The 41-year-old male driver was arrested and charged with the illegal possession of drugs.
A short while later, at about 20:40, the members spotted a White Toyota legend vehicle in Mavuso Road in Kwazakele. On closer inspection of the vehicle, it was discovered that the vehicle had false number plates and it was further established that the vehicle was linked to a March 2020 hijacking case, when it was hijacked from its owner in Kwazakele. The vehicle was confiscated for further forensic analysis and tests.
The members also found a White VW Transporter vehicle in Smith Street, Richmond Hill just after midnight at about 00:30 this morning. On searching the vehicle and questioning the driver of the vehicle, it was discovered that the driver was using the vehicle without the consent of the owner, as the owner of the vehicle opened a case in Grahamstown earlier this month. The 40-year-old driver was arrested and detained at Humewood SAPS, and the vehicle was subsequently confiscated and handed back to its rightful owner.
The two arrested suspects will be appearing before the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 29 September 2021 to face the respective charges against them.
