SAPS Giyani in collaboration with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) conducted crime awareness campaign at Homu 14B Hipambukile Primary School on Saturday 16 September 2021.
The Station Commander Brigadier Serakwana was accompanied by Colonel Mudzili, Hawks Communication Officer, Captain Matimba Maluleke, Social Crime Prevention members and other stakeholders.
The purpose of the campaign was to educate members of the community about the dangers of illegal mining.
Brigadier Serakwana made a presentation about the challenges they are facing when dealing with illegal mining. He further indicated the involvement of the community in illegal mining.
In addition, everyone was encouraged to participate in community based structures such as community policing forum, neighborhood watch, safety forums and street committees.
Community members were also given an opportunity to ask questions where they were answered to their satisfactory.
Afterwards, the entourage proceeded to Mpepuli village to alert the public about illegal mining.
Lastly, more than 800 pamphlets containing safety tips to prevent illegal mining were also distributed during the campaign.
