SAPS family honours fallen member during a memorial service in Seshego

On Thursday, 15 August 2024, members of South African Police Service senior management led by Deputy Provincial Commissioners for Human Resources Management, Major General Christinah Morakaladi, colleagues, friends, and family gathered to honour our fallen hero. The late constable Selaelo Daniel Maredi (33) was attached to Limpopo Corporate Communication Provincial Band as a musician. He tragically past on in a vehicle accident at Lebowakgomo, on Thursday, 08 August 2024. He joined the South African Police service on 01 April 2017 and completed his basic training at Philippi Police Academy in Western Cape during the year 2018. The District Commissioner of Capricorn Major General Lesiba Mashilo, Corporate Provincial Head Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba and the retired Provincial Head of Corporate Communication in the Northern Cape Brigadier Mohale Ramatseba, were amongst the attendees. His friends and colleagues described him as a dedicated, kind, family-oriented man and friendly person. He was also respectful and authentic. Speaking on behalf of the choir, Captain Moraka Mokgolo acknowledged having spent time with Maredi and declared him to be the greatest pianist. Many speakers, including SAPU Union representative, delivered words of encouragement. His immediate commander, Captain Machueni Setumo, thanked the family for providing him the opportunity to get to know Maredi and expressed appreciation for the memories they had. He went on to say that Selaelo was a performer who put a lot of effort into his work. On behalf of management, Major General Morakaladi expressed her sincere condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues and encouraged them to be brave and not to lose strength or give up in this race. She further said, "This young man transcended the typical role of an officer. He was a shining example of a talent that put Limpopo Province on the musical stage. I had absolute confidence in his abilities, understanding that whenever the band performed, they would mesmerize the audience. Constable Maredi Selaelo's legacy will endure through the love he spread, the music he performed, and the lives he influenced. Let us take this moment to contemplate our own lives and commit to living wholeheartedly, embracing our passions so that we depart this world without untold stories and unrealized potential. To the members of the band and the entire SAPS community, we extend our deepest condolences. The band will forever miss his vibrant spirit, but his legacy will thrive through music. Members of the band, we urge you to lean on each other for support. Though it may seem overwhelming, hold onto the beautiful memories and the music you crafted together" concluded General. Moruti Makua concluded the service with a reading from the Bible and encouraging words that we should continue serving the Lord even if we come across challenges in our lives and continue believing in the Lord. The official funeral in respect of the late constable Selaelo Maredi is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 18 August 2024, at his home in Seshego Zone 8, with service starting at 7:00 in the morning.
