GAUTENG – Members of SAPS Eersterust swiftly arrested two suspects, aged 29 and 30-years, on Wednesday, 1 December 2021 following a truck hijacking incident that took place on Hans Coverdale East.
According to a preliminary report a delivery truck was on route to deliver 13 mattresses when it was intercepted by a vehicle with four unknown male occupants. The four suspects approached the truck and at gun point took the truck and drove off, leaving the three delivery men behind.
Members of SAPS Eersterust were on a routine Crime Preventiom patrol when they drove past the stranded victim and immediately seached the area for the suspects.
The SAPS members swiftly identified the hijacked truck and a chase ensued, but the truck was shortly after intercepted by the police. Two suspects were apprehended, while the other two managed to flee the scene. Police recovered an unlicensed firearm and ammunition found in possession of the suspects.
The 13 mattresses were also recovered after the two suspects pointed the SAPS members to its location where it was off loaded.
The two suspects are expected to appear in court soon while further investigation is underway.
