CENTANE – The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has launched the 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children today at Centane in the Eastern Cape.
The Ward Councillor Phumla Ndabambi has welcomed everyone and encouraged the community to listen and gain information.
The Women’s Network Provincial Patron Brigadier Lindelwa Vellem unpacked the purpose of the launch saying NO TO GBV and encouraged the community not to be silent about the violence.
On the launch the Provincial Commissioner was joined by her entourage, external stakeholders and community in ensuring that they all join hands in fighting the scourge of GBV in the policing area. She was so impressed by Centane CPF for supporting Police and that the community members are so respectful to SAPS. She further promised the Centane community that they will get a Mobile CSC for service delivery and encouraged them to report criminal activities.
The external stakeholders pledge their support in the fight against GBV and amongst them Traditional Leader Chief Tyali encouraged the community to go back to basics where your neighbour’s child is your child. He emphasized that the community members must refrain in discussing crime as family but to report it to the Police. The District Community Police Forum Chairperson Ms Thandiwe Klaas pleaded with the community to fight crime with Police not against them and to report any criminal activities.
The Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection Major General Zithulele Dladla thanked the community members, the external stakeholders that made the event a success. He thanked the community members for their deliberations in ensuring that their voice is heard and the SAPS guarantee that service delivery in Centane will not be compromised.
The Chaplain Warrant Officer (Rev) Ngcepe closed the event with prayer.
