SAPS Eastern Cape Bids Farewell to Provincial Commissioner Mene

Saps Eastern Cape: SAPS Eastern Cape hosted a farewell function for the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene, who is set to retire at the end of February 2025.

According to South African Police Service, the event took place at the Summit Lifestyle Centre on Friday, 14 February 2025. The farewell was attended by notable figures including the MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Hon Xolile Nqatha, National Commissioner General Masemola, SAPS senior managers, and other distinguished guests.

During the event, Hon Nqatha described the Provincial Commissioner as a strong leader who navigated the challenges in Eastern Cape and fostered trust within the community by bringing perpetrators to justice. He extended his well wishes for her retirement, encouraging her to take care of herself.

Gifts were generously presented to Lieutenant General Mene as a sign of appreciation. Among the gifts was a frame with a General sword and a modern refrigerator, the latter being a token fr
om the Eastern Cape SAPS members.

The farewell was a prestigious occasion witnessed by her family and guests, filled with jubilation. In her response, Lieutenant General Mene expressed gratitude to everyone for making her farewell memorable. She acknowledged the support from National Commissioner General Masemola and the intervention from the Minister of Police, Mr. Mchunu, during challenging times in the Eastern Cape. She assured those present that she will always remain a dedicated police officer at heart.
