SAPS disarm suspects during crime interventions

WESTERN CAPE - The commitment of police members to combat crime that may threatened the safety and security of the community proved to be successful when two suspects were arrested and detained in two isolated incidents in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Wednesday, 01 June 2022.

Members of Manenberg Crime Prevention Unit, deployed to combat crime in the policing precinct conducted visible patrols when they heard the sound of gunshots. The convoy drove in the direction of Peta Court and tactically approached the block of flats, noticing an unknown male firing gunshots in their direction. The police members gave chase on foot and apprehended the man, after he threw the firearm onto the roof of a nearby premises. The 24 year old man was arrested and detained on a charges of attack on police and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

In an unrelated matter, Kleinvlei police members responded to information relating to a firearm in possession of an unlicensed person. Upon arrival at the identified address in Feyenoord Street in Dennemere, they searched the house and the occupants, confiscating a firearm with ammunition. A 41 year old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as he could not provide a valid license to be in possession of the mentioned firearm.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Blue Downs Magistrate courts on the mentioned charges.
