Quick response and immediate operationalization of information led to the arrest of one suspect and the recovery of a stolen firearm in unrelated cases on Friday 08 October 2021 in Bethelsdorp area.
In the first incident it is alleged that on abovementioned date at approximately 15:30, the complainant (33) was at a house in Scholtz Street, Bloemendal, with his brother when an argument broke out between the brother and the alleged suspect. The complainant intervened and was stabbed with a knife on the head as well as shot on the leg with a zip gun. The complainant received medical attention and only reported the attack on Saturday 9 October 2021. SAPS Bethelsdorp immediately followed up on information, and arrested a 30-year-old male on charges of attempted murder.
In another unrelated incident, SAPS Bethelsdorp Crime Prevention Unit received information of suspects in possession of firearms in St Bede Street, West End. The members immediately responded and performed foot patrols in the vicinity. The observant members spotted a firearm underneath a stationary bakkie. A 9mm firearm was confiscated. The firearm was reported stolen during October 2016, in East London. An enquiry is opened for further investigation.
The attempted murder suspect will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrate court on Monday 11 October 2021.
