The police in Bela-Bela conducted a crime awareness campaign at Hleketane Primary School. The campaign was initiated by social crime prevention coordinator Sergeant Sithole and Constable Manganye with the objective of preventing crime in the school and motivating learners. The duo collaborated with the local CPF, YCOP and Probation Officer.
A total of 1 290 learners were addressed on different topics.
Constable Manganye informed the learners about different kinds of drugs and how harmful they can be. He further encouraged them to take part in sport activities in order to keep busy and stay away from drugs and criminal activities.
Learners were also addressed about the following topics:
*Bullying (cyber bullying)
*Illegal gambling
*Substance and drug abuse
*Gangsterism
*Sexual assaults and sexual harassment
*The negative impact of criminal records
*Gender Based Violence and Femicides
* Human trafficking
The Principal, Mrs Maluleka appreciated the efforts taken by the police to ensure that schools are a safe environment for teachers and learners.
