Last Thursday the Amathole District SAPS hosted its first annual Excellence Awards to recognise SAPS members for outstanding dedication during 2023/2024 financial year.
The prestigious event did not disappoint all attendees in black tie attire to be among the bright stars that excel in their duties. Awards winners received certificates and trophies in categories with special recognition awards handed out by the District Commissioner, Major General Ngangema Xakavu
Among the list of categories, winners were recognised for their exemplary performance of duties in categories such as:
Station of the Year – SAPS Dutywa,
Woman of the Year -, Sergeant Mfenqele, Butterworth SAPS
Man of the Year – Warrant Officer Kanuka, Hamburg SAPS
Operational member of the Year Level 5-7- Warrant Officer Siziba, Cathcart SAPS
Operational officer of the Year Level 8-12 Col Buzwayo, Dutywa SAPS
Detective of the Year Level 5-7 – Warrant Officer Nonkonana, Ngqamakwe SAPS
Detective of the Year Level 8- 10 Captain Fete, Fort Bea

General Worker of the Year – Cleaner Gomo, Adelaide SAPS
Woman living with disability of the year – AC Qwesha, Elliotdale SAPS
Man living with disability of the year- AC Nzuzo, Hogsback SAPS
CPF of the Year – Mr Ntloko, SAPS Dutywa
Reservist of the year- Reservist Constable January Adelaide SAPS
In his address, the Amathole District Commissioner Major General Ngangema Xakavu said the excellence awards promotes and recognizes members who have dedicated their lives towards fighting crime in ensuring that all citizens are safe. As the management, we recognise the effort, achievement, and enthusiasm of employees within the organization. He added that the idea of the awards was to inspire others and to draw strength from those that won.
The nominees and guests, dressed in formal attire and evening wear, were in a joyful mood celebrating each other’s achievements. The event was a success and encouraged the members to do more.
