SAPS Academy Addo hosts Annual Inter-Forces Practical Shooting Championships

The Annual National Inter-Departmental Practical Shooting Championships kick started at the SAPS Operational and Tactical Academy Addo today.

On Wednesday, 4 September 2024, over 110 competitors coming from the South African Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Eskom, Reserve Bank and Rand Water are partaking in this year’s championship, and are representing four teams, namely, the South African Police Service (SAPS), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), State Security Agency (SSA) and the National Key Points (NKP). A two-day championship is going to demand a lot from the competitors, who are expected to participate in various practical and complex shooting exercises.

These teams consist of individuals who are best described by Sam Elliot’s phrase, “I’m not a hunter, but I’ve been around guns all my life. I’m a great shot. “.

The SAPS team consists of 40 competitors led by Brigadier Bakkies Breytenbach, who is the Section Head: Tactical Police Development at the N
ational Head Office.
