KATLEHONG – On Friday, 16 September 2022, Katlehong SAPS Social Crime Prevention Co-ordinator (SCP) Sergeant Nkonkoane together with the office of Community Police Forum (CPF) led by its Chairperson Mrs Phindile Ntuli and Department of Gauteng Education, Department of Health, Correctional Services, Ekupholeni, Skeem GP foundation, and the local ward councillor (Mr Dube), visited three schools as part of the Safer Schools Programme.

Members conducted an educational talk at Mpontsheng Secondary School to address substance abuse, human trafficking and teenage pregnancy.

The delegation then proceeded to Igagasi Primary School for a career expo, with some of the pupils wearing the dress attire of where they want to see themselves in the future with many learners showing a keen interest in joining the SAPS. The learners were introduced to the various career opportunities within our organisation and guided as to how to join the service.

The last stop was at Thembalethu Primary School for a career expo as well, it was the same outlook for pupils all dressed up like professionals of various departments. Speakers from respective departments shared the centre stage explaining the processes these kids should follow in order to pursue their careers.

Sergeant Nkonkoane addressed the learners saying, “Building a better tomorrow, it starts by building a better generation for tomorrow. I also encourage parents not to lose hope nor throw in the towel for their children as they are labelled as “ama-2000s”. We need to understand as parents and learn to live with times as we live in a different century with a big task at hand, which is to guide our children to a better tomorrow,” said Sgt Nkonkoane.
