Safer Festive Season operations continue to reduce crime across the province

POLOKWANE – The ongoing operations that are currently conducted across the Limpopo province are positively making an impact in the eradication of criminal and illegal acts within the province.

Evidently, a Provincial joint crime and road freight operation under the commandship of the Deputy Provincial Commissioner responsible for Policing, Major General Jan Scheepers which commenced at 07:45 was conducted along the N1 South next to Landmark Lodge outside Polokwane in the Capricorn District on Thursday 06 January 2022

The operation was executed through a roadblock, stop and searches and comprised of other law enforcement agencies that included National Traffic Police, Home Affairs officials, Provincial Traffic Police, Department of Labour, Bargaining Council, Community Policing Forum (CPF), Young Civilians on Patrol (Ycop) and Community in Blue.

The following successes were achieved during the operation:

* 13 illegal immigrants arrested.

* 11 summons issued for Road traffic Act (RTA) to the amount of R9050-00.

* 01 minibus taxi impounded.

* 68 vehicles stopped and checked by National Traffic police (NTP)

* 586 persons and 209 vehicles stopped and searched.

Lastly, 78 Bargaining Council Survey forms were also completed by truck drivers during the operation.

The operations are expected to be conducted throughout the week due to the ongoing commemoration of the African National Congress (ANC) January 8th celebrations across the Districts in order to monitor the safety and operational duties during this period.
