Safer Festive Season Operations continue to hit hard on criminals in Limpopo

POLOKWANE- As the Safer Festive Season Operations are gaining momentum across Limpopo province, six suspects sought for cases of carjacking and robbery were nabbed in the early hours of yesterday, Thursday 29 December 2022 in Manapjane village under Motetema policing precinct outside Groblersdal.

The suspects were arrested following a snap joint operation conducted in Jane Furse and Motetema, involving members from Groblersdal Crime Intelligence and Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU) as well as Detectives from Motetema. The six suspects were positively linked to cases of carjacking and robbery committed in Motetema, where foreign national victims travelling from South Africa to neighbouring countries such as Zimbabwe and Mozambique were targeted.

During the arrest, some of the robbed properties that included groceries, clothing, electric appliances, ID books and a Toyota Hilux bakkie all to the estimated value of R100-000 were recovered. One of the suspects was also found in possession of two enactors 70 blasting cartridges.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest and urged police members across the province to hit harder on criminals to ensure the safety of everyone including our visitors and travellers.

The six suspects aged between 26 and 35 will appear before the Groblersdal Magistrates' Court soon facing charges of carjacking, robbery, possession of suspected stolen properties and possession of illegal explosives.
