Tshwane: President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa has committed to enhancing the country’s partnership with Angola, with a focus on economic growth, continental integration, and sustainable development. During a media briefing on the occasion of the Angola State Visit, President Ramaphosa expressed eagerness for increased Angolan investment in the South African economy.
According to South African Government News Agency, President Ramaphosa emphasized the mutual benefits of deepening ties with Angola. He conferred the Order of South Africa on President João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, recognizing him as an esteemed member of the country’s National Orders. This State Visit takes place at the Union Buildings in Tshwane, where both leaders will later address a Business Forum aimed at fostering connections between Angolan and South African businesses.
President Ramaphosa highlighted ongoing structural economic reforms in both nations intended to enhance the investment climate and business environment. The leader
s have agreed to audit existing bilateral agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, which number over 44, to strengthen their strategic partnership.
The discussions also touched on peace and security within the region. President Ramaphosa praised President Lourenço’s mediation efforts in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda and expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Sudan, pledging South Africa’s support for conflict resolution efforts. The leaders also addressed the post-electoral situation in Mozambique, agreeing to collaborate on regional peace and security challenges.
President Ramaphosa congratulated President Lourenço on his re-election, reflecting on the year of significant elections across Africa, including in Angola and South Africa. Both leaders expressed optimism about the state of multiparty democracy on the continent and commended SADC’s role in supporting democratic processes.
