WESTERN CAPE - The strategic deployment of police at entry and exit routes to the Western Cape to eradicate the trafficking of illicit firearms, drugs and goods once gain yielded positive results with the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R15 000-00.
On Saturday, 16 July 2022 at about 20:00, Rural Flying Squad members conducted a static vehicle check point (VCP) along the N12 near Oudtshoorn when they stopped a sedan. The members proceeded with a search of the vehicle when they found 50 mandrax tablets and 37, 22 gram of tik stashed under the driver’s seat. They confiscated the drugs and arrested both occupants.
The suspects, both 28 years of age, remain in custody. They will appear in court once charged. Both are facing a charge of possession on drugs each.
In the meantime, on the same evening 16 July 2022, Knysna police in conjunction with the Western Cape Provincial Traffic also conducted a VCP along the N2. The joint forces stopped and searched 65 vehicles during the operation. They also issued seven fines valued at R8 000-00 for traffic related offences.
Garden Route District Commissioner, Major General Norman Modishana, applauded the members for their vigilance to rid communities of drugs. He also assured the public that the deployment of forces in crime vested areas and along highways will continue as part of concerted efforts to safeguard communities.
